Polish Chemical Society at the 4th Congress of Scientific Societies
On October 26-27, 2026, the 4th Congress of Scientific Societies under the slogan „Scientific societies in the state's science policy” was held in Lublin at the Academic Center for Culture and Media of UMCS "Chatka Żaka". The main goal of the Congress was to present the legal conditions for the functioning of scientific societies, which determine the activity of the social scientific movement in Poland.
During the Congress, discussions were held on the following issues:
- the status of scientific societies;
- the state of research on the social scientific movement as an element of the state's science policy;
- the degree of fulfillment of statutory criteria regarding the activities of scientific entities;
- the socio-cultural and scientific impact potential of scientific societies, including their participation in the popularization of science, knowledge transfer, and commercialization of research results;
- the position of journals and publications of scientific societies;
- the participation of young researchers in the social scientific movement.
The Polish Chemical Society was represented at the Congress by: the President of the PTChem Main Board, Prof. Robert Pietrzak, PhD, DSc, and the Treasurer of the PTChem Main Board, Prof. Agnieszka Nosal-Wiercińska, PhD, DSc.
During plenary session no. 3, a discussion panel entitled „The role of scientific societies in scientific communication” took place, to which the President of the PTChem Main Board was invited.
The President's participation allowed for the presentation of the goals and activities of PTChem to representatives of other scientific societies in Poland.
This valuable forum for dialogue served as a place to develop solutions taking into account the role of societies in the state's science policy. During the Congress, the extremely important role of popularizing science by Societies was emphasized.
